Author Sets for Early Childhood and Elementary Classrooms

Below is a collection of wonderful texts that have been sorted by author (with a few illustrators mixed in as well). This resource provides an opportunity for teachers to disrupt the all-too-common practice of privileging white authors when engaging students in Author Studies as part of their reading and writing workshops. Another powerful way teachers can use this resource is to feature a new author in their classroom every two weeks by displaying a head shot, a brief description of the author, and a basket of their books for children to read independently or with a friend. No matter how you choose to use these text sets, bringing diverse collections of books and authors into your classroom is a great way to help students celebrate their social identities as well as develop a greater understanding and appreciation for others.

Each link provides a sampling of the artist’s work as well as a link to their official website where you can locate additional information and titles.
